Guild Hall Dilemma His colours clash, he consecrates his ash To the Guild Hall floor He has a studio complexion, a hardened reflection Jacket pocket lyrics that tell all His soul is stained, his mood's not the same As it was the night before He hums a number in Guild Hall penumbra Stops to listen to the mirror on the wall - "It's so simple - just turn your back and leave her So simple - just bite your lip and try So simple - just smile and disbelieve her So simple - just leave in the dead of night" The hall is quiet in afternnoon light Shadows sniff at his heel His cigarette's a tiny red rocket On a shaky Ferris wheel He feels like a city, no room for pity No compassion for the weak His Angels clash, he contemplates his ash As the mirror begins to speak Radio Rats 2013 Handley Davies Parkin Dickson

Flesh Temple 02:22
Flesh Temple Your flesh is a temple With hormonal beasts - Your soul passes through Watched by grim priests. Your Mini's in a scrapyard Ruined by rainwater, In the shadow of a massive Rusted flying saucer. Run away, run away, Run away madly - That way they'll never catch you The way they caught me. Now you've left your flesh temple And, Oh honey, you're free. The salt in the ocean Is from rain off the mountain, Brought by clouds of emotion - And it's where tears come. Now the birds in the rafters And the leaves on the floor Of your temple of laughter Hear your laughter no more. Handley Radio Rats Madhouse 2011 For KR 1960 - 2010 Springs

Where Does Your Love Lie? Tell me, where where does your love lie, Oh where does your love lie - Does it lie with another, or does it lie with me? Tell me, where does your gaze fall, Oh where does your gaze fall - Does it fall upon another, or does it fall on me? Oh I wonder, yes I wonder, Where does your love lie? Oh I wonder, yes I wonder, Where does your love lie? Tell me, where go the words That you whisper, unheard - Do they go to another, or do they go to me? And all your kisses blown To that ship come sailing home - Are they blown to another, or are they blown to me? Passenger or sailor, which one will I be? Oh I wonder, yes I wonder, Where does your love lie? Oh I wonder, yes I wonder, Where does your love lie? Jonathan Handley Radio Rats 2012

Fan the Flame Just a little smile, A kiss now and again - It doesn't take much to fan the flame. Just a little hug, A squeeze every now and then - A sweet breeze is better than a hurricane. Fan the flame, fan the flame - It doesn't take much to fan the flame. A little bit of sun, a few moments of fun - It doesn't take much to fan the flame. Just a little wink, A giggle now and then - It doesn't take much to fan the flame. Who cares what others think? Let them have clouds and rain - When you blink honey it drives me insane. The Key 05:07
The Key Mere minstrels are we Set low in society - By song put to bed, By word praised when dead . Common thieves are we, Pickpockets guilty Of nimble-fingered theft, 'Til nothing new is left. So come on, come on, Come on, come on, come on - Follow me, follow me, To where the piper, the drummer, The singer, the strummer Hold the key - The key. Lepers with long hair - Thin as rakes, God's mistakes. Troubadours with sores And begging bowls at sullen doors. Sad madmen are we, Jesters and jugglers of mimicry - Borrowers of birdsong, Lenders of nought, Silent when caught. So come on, come on, Come on, come on, come on - Follow me, follow me, To where the piper, the drummer, The singer, the strummer Hold the key - The key. Mere minstrels we may be, But we hold the key To the happiness that you seek - It's in the quiet between the beats. Handley [Sept 2011] Radio Rats

RTZ 03:22
RTZ Last night I had this weird dream - A Stargirl stopped me in the street. She said "Old Man Winter's a-coming; But if you push RTZ, he'll retreat." So I pushed RTZ And time went by real slow - I pushed RTZ And back I did go. She said "Push RTZ And let's return to zero - 'Cause if you push RTZ We'll forget all our silly sorrows." I woke up, heard noises in the kitchen, Went down, found old friends drinking tea; And that Stargirl, sitting there with them, She smiled, held out her alien palm to me... (On it glowed a green button - It said "RTZ - Push Me!") So I pushed RTZ And time went by real slow - I pushed RTZ And back I did go. She said "Push RTZ And let's return to zero - 'Cause if you push RTZ We'll forget all our silly sorrows." J.Handley Radio Rats 20 May 2012

Cyanide Lake 04:06
Cyanide Lake Had this dream, kept me awake Saw this arm rise up and take A white guitar flung high and far Over Cyanide Lake Church of Anthrax, northern side Wind blew soft and the reeds cried Her arm came out and we went quiet At Cyanide Lake Karen, Lindsay, Carmen, Julie And many others stood by me Saw the guitar taken by that arm From Cyanide Lake Yellow dumps eastern side When it rained they wept cyanide So we jammed, but we never swam In Cyanide Lake Dark down there, dead and cold Where a goddess stands and in her hold Your sacrifice to rock and roll And Cyanide Lake All the old folk took us aside Said 'Drink that water and you'll die' All we knew it sparkled cobalt blue Did Cyanide Lake So this dream is about you We hung there when there was nothing to do Little did we know what lurked below Cyanide Lake That pale goddess of rock and roll Will reach up and snatch our souls - Had this dream kept me awake, Cyanide Lake Radio Rats 2013 Handley Davies Parkin Dickson Murray Park, Springs

SMALL TOWN GARAGE TOILET BLUES Just the other day I was on the highway Had a long way to go and nothing to say Pulled into this one-horse town Gas was low as the sun went down Stretched my legs, needed a piss - Was prepared for the worst, but not for this… I’ve got the small town garage toilet blues Got the smell of old urine on my shoes Got no water to wash my hands ‘Cause they’ve ripped the taps off the wash stand Got no soap, no paper towels to use Got the small town garage toilet blues Just the other night I was into low flight The stars were pale ‘cause the moon was bright Flying down the road on stay-awake pills Into the valleys and over the hills Pulled into town for a packet of fags Went for a leak, started to gag… Radio Rats 2013 Handley Davies Parkin Dickson

about

Cyanide Lake
(Radio Rats, 2013)
This album was recorded at two locations.
1. Location One - Springs. Drums (Leonard Dickson played drums – now living permanently in Vienna). Drums were recorded in a wooden-floored dining room in Strubenvale, Springs. A stereo pair of Microtech UM 90 valve condenser microphones (1995) recorded the room sound of the live 12 songs’ drum tracks, while an AKG D112 bass drum mic was used for the kick pedal. These 3 tracks went onto a Fostex D16 hard disk recorder via a Soundcraft analogue 8-4-2 desk (1988). The hard drive was formatted for 8-track recording at 24-bit, 96 kHz, for maximum resolution. The songs were played live, with Dave Davies (Springs) doing guide vocals and Jonathan Handley (Hilton, PMB) playing electric rhythm guitar. There is leakage of vocals and guitar onto these drum tracks, but the drums are very much louder than the leaked sounds.
2. Location Two – Hilton. Bass (David “Herbie” Parkin played bass – now living permanently in Sandviken, Sweden). Bass was overdubbed in the Radium studio in Hilton, as were Dave Davies’ lead vocals and Jonathan Handley’s vocals and guitars. When all 8 tracks were filled, the songs were mixed onto an Alesis Masterlink hard disk recorder. Mastering was done on this machine too, which entailed adding basic compression and loudness matching, and then the final writing of a Red Book master CD. The final CD’s (with artwork) were then duplicated by CDT in Johannesburg.
3. Radio Rats are currently completing Night Thoughts, part one of a two-CD, 20 song new release. The drummer on these songs is Chris Melling (Pietermaritzburg). His drums have been recorded using the same method, but this time in a carpeted lounge in Hilton.
